So Long MySpace, How I Barely Knew Ye

Maybe there are some folks out there still using MySpace pretty heavily, I couldn’t really tell you. Once Facebook came along with it’s cleaner, albeit more sterile, interface, MySpace began steadily losing utility for me. If not for the large swath of bands I was friends with on MySpace, I suspect I may have taken this plunge a long time ago.

MySpace is like a crazy ex-girlfriend. We grew apart and everything was fine, then she started emailing me all the time to tell me how much she had changed. Then came the emails telling me that I had a new message. When I logged in to check the new message it was spam from a profile I was not friends with. When I reported the spam to MySpace, the official response was as follows:

Thanks for contacting MySpace.

The reported profile is a MySpace sponsored profile.

MySpace is operated mainly on ad revenue. To keep MySpace free to the users, you may sometimes be sent mail from profiles like these.

Sincerely,
The MySpace Support team

What MySpace failed to consider when they sent me that response twice, is that I don’t have to receive their spam. MySpace already has plenty of ads all over their website. I am not going to consent to being spammed in my MySpace inbox. When a company resorts to spam for promotion they have already failed. I won’t do business with spammers, and MySpace has clearly decided that they want to be in the spam for hire business at the expense of their users. Fair enough. Since they obviously have a desire to further marginalize their shrinking userbase, who am I to not oblige them.

Here’s to lossless compression. Goodbye MySpace, and fuck you, you lousy spamming scum.

Down With The Sickness

Yeah, there is a new Disturbed album out, but what does that have to do with how good my braunschweiger and cheddar on whole wheat with homegrown sprouts is? If you were listening to Asylum right now, you might not notice just how delicious braunschweiger is, and that would be bad. It wouldn’t be unforgivably bad, but one really should know just how good both pleasures are. After you finish your braunschweiger, crank up your new Disturbed CD and stop by the official Disturbed website for some extras that were included with your new recording.

New Underworld album, Barking, dropping with Halo Reach

By the time you read this, both Halo Reach and the new Underworld album, Barking will be available.  I only wish I had known about the new Underworld album sooner so I could have pre-ordered it.  If you haven’t picked up either of these essential entertainment items yet, please click one of the Amazon links above and get hooked up!

I know I will be preaching to the choir with the following, but I would be reminisce if I didn’t drop a little knowledge.  Let me break it out into the video game and the album for you.

Halo Reach
I had the opportunity to participate in the Beta and despite some minor personal gripes that I am content to attribute to growing pains, the game rocked.  Halo is the time tested sci-fi FPS franchise developed by Bungie for the XBox.  Love it or hate it, every gamer knows it by now.  Unless you are a dedicated hardcore hater, pick it up and throw a Grunt Birthday Party with a few of your friends.  You will have a good time.

Underworld – Barking
Underworld are proven masters of the electronic music scene.  You loved them in Trainspotting with Born Slippy.NUXX.  Nevermind that you might be unfamiliar with their new-wave eighties roots.  They don’t rock it like that these days, even though it was great times.  Since at least 1993 Karl & Rick have dropping their own version of IDM intertwined with avant-garde spoken-word like no one else can.  If you have been missing out on their unique sonic stylings for the past 17 years, don’t wait another minute an pick up their latest endeavor.  The same goes if you are already a fan, and just found out today like I did: get it, NOW.  That is all.
